Lexington sheriff’s deputy shoots suspect

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — A Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy has shot and killed a Lexington man at a home where shots had been reported. Officers were called to the home around 1 p.m. Monday. One of the officers entered the home and found a man pointing a gun at him and threatening him. The officer fired and the suspect later died. His name has not been released. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. Thirty-three-year-old Deputy Billy Womble has been placed on administrative leave while the case is investigated. Womble has been a deputy since 2001.
