Mayor Holds Public Safety Forum
(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., —
It was a meeting of the minds. Dozens of citizens, city officials and law enforcement gathered at Columbia city hall to put frustrations over recent violence aside and come up with solutions on how to act.
A few of the ideas presented included an expansion for the live stream surveillance cameras, and idea the Mayor says has been taken into consideration. By the beginning the year the city hopes to expand the program to have about 8 hundred cameras monitoring the streets of the entire city.
Residents also suggested opening some locations where seniors and youth can all come to take part in sports and community events. One of the main suggestions was getting young people involved in the discussion to find out their take on ways to improve public safety.
The Mayor says he plans to hold another forum December 3rd, doing just that. Including young people to hear what they want and more importantly what they feel they need to have a safe city they can live in, work in and play in.
