Need for Holiday Help Rises

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., —
It’s been a record breaking holiday season for Harvest Hope who says they are seeing more families in need of help keep food on their tables. According to Communications Director, Skot Garrick the Monday before Thanksgiving the organization assisted more than 18 hundred families. The largest numbers of families they say they’ve ever helped in one day.
Garrick says when the Food stamp benefits program was cut back in November it left many Midlands families with less money and in need of more help.
” Families who were receiving benefits have seen a reduction which means they have less than they would normally get and are being forced to find other alternatives.”
Harvest Hope is urging people not to be ashamed of needing a little extra help and say their goal is to help as many families keep food on their tables as possible.
Garrick says their location at 2220 Shop Road is open every Monday through Friday from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. Anyone who comes in with a need. will be able to leave with food that day.
