SC treasured tree nominations sought by Nov. 15

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) âone space€one space” The city of Columbia wants nominations for “treasured trees” to preserve those that have special value to the Midlands. The trees may be located on public or private property in the greater Columbia metropolitan area. Anyone may make a nomination, which is due by Nov. 15. The trees are considered for their size, association with historical events, aesthetic or sentimental value, scarcity of the species or a tree that provides the opportunity to swing or climb. Preference is given to trees accessible for public viewing. Nominations of trees on private property require the property owner’s signature on the nomination. Owners or caretakers of the selected trees will get an award certificate at a celebration at the Governor’s Mansion. Information is available at 803-545-3860, and nominations may be made to forestry@columbiasc.net.
