Suspect Charged in Lancaster County Death

LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) _ A suspect has been charged in the death of a man whose body was found earlier this month in a wooded area in Lancaster County.

Sheriff Barry Faile said Friday that 24-year-old David Adam Pate had been charged with murder in the death of 33-year-old Rickey James of Wallace.

Children found James’ decomposing remains in the woods Nov. 16. Faile says authorities think Pate killed James in the woods about a month earlier, then hid his body under a pile of brush.

Authorities have not determined a motive for the killing or said how James died.

Faile says Pate has been jailed since he was arrested Nov. 11 on a disorderly conduct charge. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
