3 men sentenced in SC sports betting ring

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Columbia man serving life in prison for killing his wife and another man has also been sentenced to two years in federal prison for running an illegal gambling business.

U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie said Wednesday that Brett Parker’s gambling addiction led to his life falling apart.

Parker is serving two life prison sentences for killing his wife and a business partner last year. Prosecutors said Parker killed his wife, Tammy, in April 2012, and tried to frame it on Bryan Capnerhurst.

Parker testified unsuccessfully that he shot Capnerhurst after the man came into his home, quickly killed his wife, and then demanded money.

Also Wednesday, Parker’s father was sentenced to five months in prison for his role in the business. A third man, Douglas Taylor, received probation.
