Sumter County deputy fired for reckless shooting
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis says he fired one of his deputies after she fired several shots while she was drunk and off duty, nearly wounding a man.
Dennis told The Item of Sumter (http://bit.ly/JT4PI3 ) that 35-year-old Crystal Driggers showed a completely disregard for the safety of others during the incident Thursday night.
The sheriff says Driggers was drinking with her husband and others when she decided to shoot at a barrel from a clubhouse in Dalzell. At least one of the bullets went through the woods and into a home where it nearly hit a man inside.
Driggers was charged with discharging her firearm into an occupied residence. It isn’t known if she had a lawyer.
Driggers had been a deputy for two years.
