West Columbia man arrested in fatal shooting
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department say they’ve arrested a West Columbia man wanted in the fatal shooting of a man whose home he’d broken into.
Sheriff James Metts said 20-year-old Joshua Cody Young turned himself in around noon Tuesday.
Young is charged with murder, first-degree burglary and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Young is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing. His attorney, Justin Kata, couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.
Arrest warrants say Young was armed with a 9-mm Beretta when he shot 19-year-old Shane Diquan Brooks after breaking into his home on Monday. Brooks died at a local hospital.
Metts said Young was shot in the leg after getting into a fight with Brooks.
