Patient Says “Thank You” With Flash Mob
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Wednesday morning, a flash mob took over Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. “We really wanted to make the dance marathon this year, something absolutely memorable that blows people like out of the water,” says Abi Cruz, former Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital patient All of the students involved in Wednesday’s flash mob attend Cardinal Newman School. They’ve been planning this weekend’s dance marathon, benefiting Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, for nearly a year. With them… Abi Cruz. “This is the place that helped me get better,” say Cruz. For nine months she was a patient here fighting Osteogenic Sarcoma, cancer of the bone. Today, Abi is better and she wanted to say thank you to the physicians who helped her. One of her favorites, Dr. Ron Neuberg. What better way to say thank you, than a flash mob? “She’s a great person, she’s got a great attitude and she’s a fighter,” says Dr. Ron Neuberg, medical director of the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. So with her friends by her side, Abi turned the hospital lobby into a dance floor. Even Dr. Neuberg showed off some moves. “They were very uncool,” says Dr. Neuberg “I’m just one of those people that’s kind of laid back and I like to joke around and stuff, so that’s what it was like most of the time when I was staying here,” says Cruz “Every time she got admitted to the hospital, the residents would say, ‘She is really cool.’ And I have to agree,” says Dr. Neuberg The Cardinal Newman Dance Marathon will take place Saturday, February 8, 2014. The theme is ‘Going Wild to Save a Child.’ In the past two years, Cardinal Newman Dance Marathon has raised more than $50,000.
