Governor on Ice Storm: ‘Brace yourselves’

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — From a state of emergency status to highway patrol’s advice to pack food in your car in case you get stranded, the Midlands and the state are preparing to survive round two of wintry weather, focusing this time on the possible impact of ice. Governor Nikki Haley, today, pointed out the obvious writing on the car windshield: wintry weather is far from over. “No one should be on the road [Wednesday] at all,” said Haley. “It’s not safe for anyone.” Earlier this month brought snow, prompting city and state officials to prepare for the worst. Round two involves ice, and that could mean major problems if motorists, especially, don’t heed warnings, says haley, and state highway patrol. “Make sure you have a way to stay warm, have food, check on pets and the elderly through this process. We do need to brace ourselves. it will be a pretty nasty ice storm,” said the governor. Be careful, slow down, create larger distances between you and other vehicles and be mindful that there may be debris, branches, a tree or power line in the roadway,” said Lance Corporal David Jones. As grocery store shelves get bare, restocked and bare again, state officials urge, get prepared Tuesday, because Wednesday may be too late. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety urges motorists to only use *HP for true emergencies such as reporting collisions or being stranded in a vehicle.
