Deputies: Man Maced Pregnant Woman, Stole Purse
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Richland County deputies are looking for a man who allegedly attacked two people, including a pregnant woman, with mace in two robbery attempts. The first reported attack happened around 9:45 p.m. Sunday. “A male victim was getting out of his vehicle on Longcreek Drive. He was about to go into his residence and he was approached by a black male that demanded money,” says Curtis Wilson, Public Information Officer – Richland County Sheriff’s Department. When the victim didn’t comply, we’re told the suspect sprayed him with mace then fled with nothing. But, deputies say, he would strike again carrying more than mace. “We believe he’s also armed with a handgun as well,” says Wilson Within a half hour and just up the road, seven minutes drive time, another attack. “Slim, black male wearing all black approached a female who was walking to her residence as well. He demanded her money and then he maced her,” says Wilson This time, deputies say, the pregnant victim dropped her purse and the suspect made off with it. “He was able to get away with cash, various credit cards as well as identification,” says Wilson Deputies are currently working to track the credit cards to check for usage. They’re also looking into any video surveillance in the area. The suspect is only described as a black male, wearing black clothing. Deputies believe the same man is involved in both cases.
