The Coast Guard says the boaters were found on high ground near the Edisto River around 7 o’clock yesterday morning after they left on a fishing trip from Edisto Island on Saturday.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s toughest law on using cellphones while driving is now on the books in Greenville. The law takes effect today. It bans drivers from using any hand-held devices while a vehicle is in operation, including talking on a cellphone.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An Orangeburg man charged with conspiring to kill a prison guard in a hit orchestrated by an inmate on an illegal cellphone has signed a plea agreement. Court papers filed last week show Sean Echols has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to use interstate facilities to arrange a murder-for-hire.

JENKINSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Electric & Gas is testing its emergency siren system at its nuclear power plant in Fairfield County. Around 1 o’clock this afternoon, the utility will sound the warning system around the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.
