SC’s ArtFields looks to build on 2013 success

LAKE CITY, S.C. (AP) — Lake City hopes to build on the success of ArtFields, the festival held in an unlikely place.
The second season of ArtFields opens on Friday evening in the old tobacco town midway between Columbia and Myrtle Beach.
Last year, the 10-day event attracted about 22,000 people to the rural town. This season, organizers hope to attract 30,000.
The centerpiece of the event is 400 pieces of art displayed in galleries, stores, restaurants and public venues throughout town. Those attending get to vote on some of the winners who, among the various categories, split $100,000 in prize money.
The artists whose work is on display are from throughout the South. But more than 280 are from South Carolina. Organizers hope to increase the number of out-of-state artists in the coming years.
