George Rogers talks about the 1981 & 2014 NFL Draft

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “This is probably one that’s going to go down in South Carolina history with two players being chosen as number one,” says George Rogers, 1980 Heisman Trophy Winner Thursday afternoon we caught up with Gamecock great, George Rogers at Cobblestone Park. He and his team were playing in a tournament to benefit the Richland County Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Rogers was the first pick in the 1981 NFL Draft. “It was between me and Lawrence Taylor back then and it was, who are you going to pick George or Lawrence Taylor, George or Lawrence Taylor?,” says Rogers Rogers knows all too well how Gamecock standout Jadeveon Clowney feels. “I’m sure Clowney, his heart is beating right now,” says Rogers In his eyes Clowney is the best. “He’s done somethings at that position that no other player has done,” says Rogers USC Defensive Line Coach, Deke Adams agrees. “I’ve been coaching ball for 17 years. He’s done some things I’ve never seen guys do,” says Adams Rogers, who won the Heisman in 1980 and, until 2012 and Marcus Lattimore, held the record for the most touch downs rushed says he is proud of all the Gamecocks heading into the 2014 NFL Draft. “It’s great to be a Gamecock, it’s great to be a Gamecock,” says Rogers Tonight, Rogers says, is just the beginning. He gives this advice… “You gotta go in, in good condition and be in shape and listen to the older guys. I mean, those are the guys that’s going to give you some experience and as you go along,” says Rogers.
