IRMO, S.C. (WOLO) — “It’s beautiful,” says Bobbi Dyar, mother. Since the Irmo Community Park opened in May, Bobbi Dyar and her family have enjoyed visiting the park. “In the last two months, I would say about 3 times,” says Dyar Her children have their own perks of the park. “We get to run around and play,” says Kaylee Dyar, 3 years old. “I like the playground. I like that there’s a lot of kids here,” says Malachi Dyar, 9 years old. But for Bobbi Dyar, it’s the shade. However, this past weekend tragedy struck when 3 year old Jacoby Latta was hit in the head by a fallen tree limb while attending a church picnic. A memorial now sits near the up-and-coming Children’s Garden. Mayor Hardy King says town council has agreed to name the garden in Latta’s honor. Following the accident, Town Administrator Bob Brown says the park closed for several days and a tree company was hired to evaluate the trees. Brown says the town received approval to reopen Wednesday. The Irmo Community Park is open 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. seven days a week.
