SC man gets 60 years in prison in woman’s death

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A former Richland County jail officer has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for killing his pregnant fiancee and setting her body on fire.
The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/1heeNmg) that 24-year-old Tristan Gist was sentenced Wednesday in a plea agreement in the March 2013 killing of 22-year-old Dierra Fisher.
Prosecutor Meghan Walker said Gist shot Fisher in the head while she was asleep in the couple’s apartment.
Authorities say Gist put Fisher’s body in a truck and took it to a secluded spot near a Richland County landfill and set the body on fire.
Prosecutors say the couple had argued and Gist was depressed they he could not afford to buy a house. Gist told investigators that Fisher had threatened to leave and take two preschool-age children with her.
