What you need to bring with you to the Polls:ID
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — The June 10th republican and democratic primaries are big, say election officials, for one reason. “This is the first statewide election under the new photo ID requirements.” Although in place for nearly a year and a half, and in effect for several smaller elections, the new law has not undergone a statewide voting process. On primary day, spokesperson for the state elections commission, Christ Whitmire, says make sure you’re following the law to the letter. “If you’ve got a driver’s license, a DMV identification card, a new photo voter registration card, a U.S. passport, or a federal military ID, you’re ready to vote,” said Whitemire. If you don’t have a picture ID, Whitmire says you can still get one, even on election day at your local voter registration office. If you are unable to obtain one, he says you can bring your old non-photo voter registration card and sign an affidavit. “You can complete an affidavit that you sign swearing you are who you say you are and you had some impediment preventing you from getting a photo id and cast a provisional ballot, and it will count,” said Whitmire. Another thing election officials say is do your homework prior to going to the polls. That includes researching your candidates and viewing a sample ballot online at scvotes.org. They say doing so will ensure you and everyone else gets in and out with ease.
