New $13 million training center in Sumter underway
SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Work has begun on a $13 million renovation of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center at Coastal Carolina Technical College in Sumter.
The center, located in an old Walmart building, will be used in part to train employees for a new Continental Tire manufacturing plant.
The Item of Sumter reports (http://bit.ly/1nnM8Ijs ) groundbreaking for the center was held on Thursday with local and state officials on hand. The building being renovated is just over 100,000 square feet, with about a third of that to be used specifically for training Continental workers.
The company opened a new $500 million plant in Sumter earlier this year.
