Remebering Hurricane Hugo

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — ” so far so good but the season is not over just yet” But that doesn’t mean we are in the clear. In fact we still have about two more months to go before hurricane season ends and we are officially out of the woods. The Department of Emergency Management Public Relations Coordinator Joe Farmer says they’ve seen it before with storms like Hurricane Hugo. The category 4 storm that arrived just before midnight September 21st 1989. Torrential downpours, uprooted trees, broken power lines and even crushed cars. “we have better facilities, better training, we have more professional people on all levels in South Carolina.” Organizers hope to use those skills, unheard of 25 years ago to keep you safe…so when a storm comes you;re hoping for the best – but still prepared for the worst. “we have changed and we have gotten better but nature has not changed. We all know that sooner or later south carolina is going to be hit again, we just don’t know when.”
