Feed the Need

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — ” It’s extremely important to give back to the community when there is a need. and if we don’t do it, then who is.” The Cooperative Ministry has been giving back in the community for years. But now even they’re looking for some help in order to continue that service. Cooperative Ministry Director, Kara Simmons gave us a first hand look inside their pantry. their nearly empty shelves shows just how big the need is. ” We have seen an increase in clients needing clothes and food and as you can see we are in need of food.” The few canned good they do have Simmons says are not practical for the homeless who have no where to cook and no way to open them. “We need non perishable food items with pop tops, tuna, crackers things that the homeless can eat quickly.” But the homeless are not the only ones suffering. Simmons says about 1 in 7 families, maybe even someone you know is what the cooperative ministry calls food insecure, which means they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. That’s where you come in. these feed the need boxes have been set up at area little ceaser’s restaurants where some donations have already started coming in. Each box will help replenish the dwindling stock before Thanksgiving and Christmas and help feed those who just want to do something as simple as eat. “it’s our job. hopefully we’ll be able to get these shelves back up and running and packed.” For a complete list of the items you can donate go to: www.coopmin.org/donations-page
