Officials Consider Camden/Dreher Brawl Appeal

Kershaw County (SID) — Kershaw County School District officials said today that they will seriously consider “‹contin”‹uing “‹the appeal process after the Executive Committee of the High School League failed to”‹ “‹”‹reduce team sanctions previously imposed on Camden High School‘s football program by League staff. “While we appreciate the difficult role of the Executive Committee, we disagree with its decision to penalize the entire team for the actions of certain players,” said Kershaw County School District Superintendent Frank Morgan. “We believe there is a provision within the League’s constitution that would allow for a lesser probation where Camden High School would be allowed to participate in the playoffs.” The sanctions were imposed after a postgame altercation between Camden High School and Dreher High School football players on Oct. 17. An Oct. 23 decision by the High School League denied Camden High the opportunity to play in regional or state playoff games for the current season as well as took away the team‘s jamboree play prior to next season. The League‘s decision also suspended individual players and fined the school. In addition, Camden High School disciplined players who were involved in the fight or who failed to obey authorities according to the Kershaw County School District Code of Student Conduct.
