Myrtle Beach Unveils Campaign about Memorial Day Safety Plan
Myrtle Beach has unveiled a new ad campaign to let visitors know about Memorial Day safety plans taking effect after violence marred the weekend in 2014. Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Brad Dean says the campaign the object is to let visitors know what to expect during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest. Changes include a 23-mile one-way loop to control traffic at night, one-way traffic on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach and an increased law enforcement presence. The campaign includes videos of local residents asking visitors to respect their town and obey the law. Dean expects about $50,000 will be spent on the campaign targeting visitors on social media. Three people died and seven were wounded in violence in the area last Memorial Day.
