Citadel Concludes Investigation into Allegations of Hazing

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ The Citadel reports 19 cadets have been recommended for suspension, dismissal or expulsion following a school investigation into hazing. The probe began earlier this year after the military college’s commandant, Navy Capt. Geno Paluso, asked for cadets to be surveyed about hazing. The final results were released Tuesday. The probe resulted in 85 allegations, 53 of which were not considered hazing but violations of the school’s military training rules. Those cases resulted in on-campus punishments for those involved. The 19 cadets involved in the hazing cases are appealing their punishments. Under school rules, suspension lasts a semester and dismissal lasts two but in both cases cadets have an option to return. Cadets who are expelled or who resign may never return. Withdrawal is voluntary and students may reapply for admission.
