COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– No Change, No worries. The City of Columbia is launching a new Parking Meter App that allows Drivers to pay remotely via credit or debit card. The New Passport App was unveiled Tuesday. The App is free and officials with the City of Columbia hope it will make parking a little more convenient downtown. “It’s convenience to the public, that’s what we’re after,” said John David Spade, City of Columbia Parking Director. There is a 35 cents convenience fee per session. Users of the app will be able to pay for the maximum amount of time on the meter and will be notified if their time is about to expire. Officials said the only time you can‘t re-feed the meter is in designated areas like parts of Main Street. “If they are having a cup of coffee or in a meeting that’s running late, they’ll know their session is about to expire because the app will tell them and then they can extend right there from their phone,” said Nathan Berry, Passport Vice President of Sales.
