Man struck, killed by Amtrak Train

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says one person is dead after being struck by a train near Fontaine and Two Notch Roads Friday morning. Lt. Curtis Wilson with the Sheriff’s Department says the accident occurred at about 5 a.m Friday. Deputies were called to the scene for a report of a black male lying on the tracks. Wilson says the passenger train that was carrying about 200 passengers did not derail. None of the passengers on board the Charlotte-bound Amtrak Train 177 were injured Wilson said. The train was headed to Hamlet, NC and will continue its route to Charlotte. Officials with the sheriff’s department continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident. Richland Co. Coroner, Gary Watts has not released the name of the person killed.
