Boeing holds grand opening for research, technology center

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Boeing has expanded again in South Carolina, holding the grand opening if its new research and technology center in North Charleston. Several hundred workers and local officials turned out for Thursday’s ceremony. Engineers at the center will work on everything from electromagnetics and advanced aircraft production to chemical technology. The company is not saying specifically how many engineers are working at the facility but Beverly Wyse, the general manager for Boeing South Carolina, says the company now employs 7,500 people in the state. The new research and technology center is the fifth the aeronautics giant operates in the U.S. and one of 11 it has worldwide. Workers moved into the first phase of the new center late last year and the full facility was operating in July. Copyright 2015 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
