US Army Central greets 3-star general as new commander

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — A new commanding general is assuming responsibility for leading U.S. Army Central, which is based in central South Carolina and at a forward operating installation in Kuwait.

After a promotion ceremony Tuesday morning to three-star rank, Lt. Gen. Michael Garrett takes over from Lt. Gen. James Terry, who is retiring after 37 years of service in the Army.

Army Central spokeswoman Maj. Neysa Williams says the event takes place at U.S. Army Central Headquarters, located on Shaw Air Force Base outside Sumter.

U.S. Army Central supports and supplies American military forces in the Middle East and central Asian regions, which includes more than two dozen nations stretching from western Africa to Afghanistan.
