Attempted Murder Charge Pending in Officer-Involved Shooting

20151207OfficerInvolvedShootingCOLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said the suspect who allegedly shot at deputies during an officer-involved shooting on Saturday will face charges.

Sheriff Lott announced the pending arrest of 59-year-old Roger Hale.

Hale will be charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, receiving stolen goods, and weapons violations.

Officials say that at 8 p.m. on Dec. 5 ,deputies responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Faraway Drive for a domestic disturbance.

The Sheriff said Hale was acting strange and refused to comply with deputies.

Deputies attempted to get Hale’s mother, who remained inside to leave the residence but she refused, officials say.

Sheriff Lott said deputies feared for her safety and alerted the Richland County Special Response Team.

Hale allegedly fired multiple rounds at the deputies who returned fire, striking Hale in the upper and lower body.

Hale was transported to Palmetto Health Richland in critical condition.

No deputies were wounded during this incident officials say.

Sheriff Lott said Hale has a lengthy criminal history that involves, drugs, alcohol, financial crimes, assaults and domestic violence.

Hale will be charged and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center once released from the hospital.
