Duce Staley

Former Gamecock and Airport High School standout running back Duce Staley interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles Friday for their head coaching job.

The Eagles fired Chip Kelly last Tuesday after a disappointing 6-9 record.  Kelly was 26-21 in three years in Philadelphia.

Staley, 40, joined Andy Reid’s Eagles staff in 2010 and has remained the team’s running backs coach.

Staley ran for more than 4800 yards for the Eagles from 1997-2003 before moving on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Staley was an all-state wide receiver at Airport in 1992.  After two years of junior college, Staley gained more than 2,000 combined yards rushing and receiving for the Gamecocks in 1995 and 96.

After retiring from football in 2007, Staley spent time in Columbia as a sports talk radio host before rejoining the Eagles as an assistant coach.
