23-year-old killed in car crash, driver charged with felony DUI

crash-f-jpg.jpgCOLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — A man has been charged in a deadly vehicle collision that occurred Christmas Eve on Two Notch Road.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said 23-year-old Piere Deshawn Ray was driving a car in the 1800 block of Two Notch Road shortly after 11 p.m. on December 24, when he lost control of the car before striking a curb and crashing into several metal poles and a brick wall.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified Ray’s passenger as 24-year-old James Lightbourne.

He died on Sunday, January 3  at a local hospital as a result of blunt force trauma associated with the

collision.

Lightbourne was not wearing a seatbelt.

Ray is charged with felony DUI resulting in death and simple possession of marijuana.

He continues to receive medical treatment at a local hospital for his injuries, officials say.
