Fire Officials Urge Caution When Heating Homes

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Winter is upon us and some people are doing everything they can to stay warm during the cold temperatures.

Adding an extra layer when you head out the door isn’t a bad idea, but when it comes to heating your home the Columbia Fire Department is reminding you to do so safely.

Officials say alternative heat sources can lead to deadly house fires.

  • To ensure safety do not leave devices unattended
  • Do not leave devices on while you are sleeping
  • Keep them at least 3 feet away from combustible material
