Video: South Carolinians Take Home Smaller Powerball Prizes

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Wednesday night’s $1.6 billion Powerball drawing dashed the dreams of all but three winners in Florida, Tennessee and California

While no South Carolinians hit the jackpot a record number of more than 366,000 winning tickets were sold in the state. Five South Carolina players one $100,000 while eleven won $50,000.

As contestants are collecting their cash the Department of Consumer affairs is warning against scams.

“Even though this has been in the news this is one of those common scams that goes away,” says Juliana Harris with the DCA.
She explains, “Definitely don’t want to engage with anyone who’s contacting you via e-mail or over the phone.. or if they’re asking you for your personal information. Those would be red flags.”
Winning and losing set aside players take comfort in knowing 43% of the money they spent on tickets is going toward education.
