SC State Tops Delaware State, 56-41

DOVER, Del. (SC St SID) — Junior guard Eric Eaves scored a game-high 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting  to  lead South Carolina State to a 56-41 win over Delaware State on Saturday(Jan. 30) at Memorial Hall.

The Bulldogs complete the season sweep of Delaware State and posted the first victory over the Hornets since 2009 at Memorial Hall. With the win SC State improves to 12-11 overall, 7-2 in the MEAC, which moves the Bulldogs into second place in the conference, mid-way through the regular season.

Senior forward/center Daryll Palmer added his third double-double of the season 10 points and 10 rebounds, three assists, four blocks for South Carolina State which shot just 36 percent but got 16 assists on its 21 field goals.

Eaves has scored at least 20 points in five of his last six games.

Delaware State (3-18, 2-5) trailed most of the game but kept within striking distance, cutting the gap to 22-21 early in the second half with DeAndre Haywood’s layup. The Bulldogs responded with an 11-1 burst that included a dunk from Palmer and a 3-point play from Eaves and led by double figures the rest of the way.

Haywood finished with 10 points to lead Delaware State, which hit just 2 of 20 from 3-point range and had 15 turnovers.
