Woman Gets 15 Years for Stabbing Death of Her Child’s Father

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports that a 25-year-old Courtney Price testified she was abused for years and carried a knife around to protect her life.

Price told the jury 24-year-old Samuel Simmons tried to choke her before she killed him in September 2014.

The jury found Price guilty of voluntary manslaughter. Prosecutors sought a murder conviction.

Authorities say Price became angry after seeing text messages on Simmons’ phone about him and another woman and the child they had together and stabbed him as he slept.
