Man Accused of Killing Acquaintance

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — A man wanted in connection with a fatal armed robbery attempt is behind bars.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said  17-year-old Jose Reyes was taken in to custody just after 7 a.m. pm on Tues. March 1 at his residence, he is charged with murder.

On February 29 at 8:30 pm in the 400 block of Seton Hall Drive, Reyes allegedly shot  18-year-old Jaelen  Josey while attempting to rob him.

Sheriff Lott said Reyes was an acquaintance of the victim.

Richland County deputies discovered the victim in his crashed vehicle after a report of shots fired in the area with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Josey died from complications of a gunshot wound to the back.

Reyes is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
