Benedict Women’s Basketball Team Earns Second Seed For NCAA South Region Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS (Benedict SID) — The Benedict College women’s basketball team earned the second seed in the NCAA South Region Tournament and will travel to Jackson, Tennessee.

The Lady Tigers, 27-2 overall, won the SIAC Tournament on Saturday with a 74-52 victory over Kentucky State. Benedict is advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year

Benedict will face seventh seed Florida Tech. Florida Tech is 20-9 overall and lost to Tampa in the championship game of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on Sunday. The Panthers are led by Shequana Harris, a second-team All-SSC selection who is averaging 15 points per game.

Union University is the No. 1 seed and will host the region tournament for the second straight year. Union, 28-3, will take on eighth seed Tampa, which earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament by winning the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

Delta State, which beat Union in the championship of the Gulf South Conference Tournament, is the third seed. They will face sixth seed Nova Southeastern.

The fourth seed is Florida Southern and will take on fifth seed Kentucky State.

Quarterfinal games will be played on Friday, with semifinals on Saturday. The region championship game will be Monday, March 14.

Game times will be announced on Monday.
