Columbia Officer Struck By Car
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — A Columbia Police Officer is recovering this morning after authorities say he was struck by a car. Columbia spokesperson, Jennifer Timmons tells ABC Columbia News the Officer was responding to a suspicious car traveling on Devine Street near Fort Jackson Boulevard.
Authorities believed the driver may have been passed out once they reached the scene. According to CPD, the officer tried to speak with the suspect and assist him out of the car when police say the driver allegedly drove off striking the officer in the upper body.
Additional officer responding to the scene were able to follow the driver for a short chase leading them to Monticello Road near Mullen where the driver of the car was apprehended. Authorities say officers located a handgun and what appeared to be narcotics.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital but has been placed in police custody pending the ongoing investigation.
The Officer involved in the incident is said to be okay at this time.
