Keeping Safe During Spring Break
Tips from the Richland County Sheriff's Department
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Spring Break is a fun time, but Law Enforcement say there are some things to keep in mind, to keep you safe.
Here are some tips from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department:
· Once permission is obtained from a parent or guardian to go to a designated place, use a buddy system. Parents should be aware of where their child is going, who they are going with, how the child is getting to and from the location, and when the child will return back home.
· Whether staying local or vacationing for Spring Break, do not talk to strangers. Parents, it is suggested that you come up with a code word between you and your child in case of an emergency if someone tells the child that they should go with them; the child can ask them for the code word.
· Students are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately if they are home by themselves and experience suspicious individuals around the house or neighborhood.
· If traveling for Spring Break, parents make sure that all doors and windows are locked to your homes. Contact law enforcement to have your home on a special property check while you are away.
