Man Accused of Defrauding SC Lottery
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — A man was arrested on April Fools’ Day for allegedly defrauding the South Carolina Educational Lottery.
Police say 26-year-old Marcus Washington is also facing eight counts of shoplifting.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said investigators were notified that Washington was going in to different businesses and presenting non-winning lottery tickets asking the employees for additional lottery tickets which he would steal by fleeing from the businesses without paying.
Washington allegedly went inside multiple businesses in November of 2015 and in February of this year stealing lottery tickets totaling $410.
He is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
