Orangeburg Hospital Makes Job Cuts, Leaves Some Unfilled

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — An Orangeburg hospital is eliminating just over 30 jobs, reducing hours for 27 other employees and leaving an additional 30 positions vacant in order to save money.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the Regional Medical Center is making the moves to ensure the hospital can continue to serve the community in the future.

Hospital President Tom Dandridge said in a statement that the plan is expected to save about $5 million a year.

He says the cuts are across the board and adds that while no services or programs are being eliminated, the hospital will have to operate more efficiently with a smaller staff.

The newspaper reported that the hospital has recorded losses of $6.3 million during the past two years.
