Police: Sumter County Kidnapping Suspect Caught
SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WOLO) – Authorities with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department say they have apprehended a man who was recently added to their most wanted list.
Shaun Delpatrick Rich, 43, of Marian Lane in Sumter, was arrested following a car stop about 1 a.m. Wednesday by Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, Rich allegedly broken into the home of the mother of his 10-month-old child and forced her to drive them from the residence in her vehicle.
Authorities say the woman convinced him to let her stop at a convenience store for cigarettes and got a customer to call 911 while she locked herself and the child in a restroom.
Rich fled before law enforcement arrived, officials say.
He is charged with burglary and kidnapping and is being held in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
