Largest Number of Baltimore Orioles Spend Winter in SC

orioleORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — For the second year in row, a national survey shows that South Carolina had the largest number of orioles spend their winter there.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the second annual Baltimore Oriole Winter Survey showed 65 reports came in from South Carolina, tallying 463 orioles. Last year, 304 orioles were tallied.
The survey was conducted Feb. 12-15.
Wildlife technician Lex Glover of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources says participants counted and recorded the largest number of orioles they could see at one time, on one, two, three or all four days of the survey period.
Orioles were recorded in 14 South Carolina counties. The Charleston area had the largest number of reports and orioles recorded in the state.
