Man Charged with Homicide by Child Abuse in Death of 1-Year-Old

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WOLO) – A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of his girlfriend’s daughter.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Aaliyah McNear, died as a result of blunt head trauma.

The 1-year-old child succumbed to injuries on May 5, Sheriff Leon Lott said.

Todd Taylor is charged in her death.

On Tuesday, May 3, investigators with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department were called to a local hospital about a possible case of child abuse, authorities say.

Authorities say Taylor was alone with the victim at a residence in the 2500 block of Crofton Way when he allegedly inflicted blunt force trauma to the head of the child.

The mother of child rushed home after receiving a call from Taylor and found the child unresponsive.

Sheriff Lott said doctors discovered additional injuries to the lower body of the victim.

Taylor has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
