Columbia man killed in crash on I-77 Saturday morning
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is releasing the name of the man who died after being involved in a single-car collision around 6:25 a.m. Saturday morning on I-77 southbound near mile marker 10 in Columbia.
Officials said Javaris Cornelius Simmons, 32, of Dumont Street in Columbia, was not wearing a seat belt, when his car left the roadway, overturned and hit several trees. Simmons was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital by Richland County EMS where he died at 1:58 p.m. The coroner said he died from complications from the injuries he received in the collision.
The S.C Highway Patrol is investigating.
