Watch: CPD Officer Seriously Injured in Crash

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– A spokesperson for the Columbia Police Department says an officer was involved in a collision on I-126 at the Broad River Bridge.

Police say Officer Pete Conklin was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital where he is recovering in the ICU following surgery.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the Officer Conklin was investigating a previous accident around 6pm Tuesday night when he was hit by a car.

Troopers say the driver of that car received minor injuries.

Tropper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says it’s unclear at this time whether the driver will face charges.
