COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– From no-shows to center stage, it’s a mixed bag when it comes to South Carolina leaders and the Republican National Convention.
Our Grace Joyal has more on how the Palmetto State Politics are influencing the game at the RNC.
No spotlight, for South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley..
“She’s not going to be speaking.
“She has in the past.”
It’s been something that’s elevated her stature.
She’s gonna stay with the delegation, so it’s a reflection on how much dissension and how much uncertainty there is in the Republican party.” B …and like a handful of establishment politicians, South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham simply won’t be there. “Trying to make a statement that this is really someone that in better times or a different scenario, really doesn’t have what it takes to be Commander in Chief.” O South Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster shares the opposite view.
He gave one of two speeches nominating Donald Trump as the party’s presidential pick at the RNC Tuesday.
McMaster was the first statewide elected politician in the country to back Trump’s candidacy.
McMaster says Trump will use this week to unite the party after a nasty primary season. “And that’s going to be the challenge.
Whether this is an opportunity for Republicans to show they’ve achieved that unity, or whether it’s the Trump family circus.” B “I think what needs to be done is how can we get enough agreement or enough unification going forward to win the election in November.” O Don’t expect to see *either* of the candidates in the Palmetto State before November.
Political experts at USC say…regardless of who’s showing face at the RNC this week….South Carolina is a red state, and no amount of money or time will change that.
