Civilians, Fall In! Army’s Fort Jackson Wants You to Visit

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) – The Army’s largest basic training installation is inviting civilians to learn what happens when soldiers go through basic combat training.

Fort Jackson commander Brig. Gen. John Johnson says members of the public may take part in a daylong tour of his installation on Aug. 4.

The tour will introduce them to drill sergeants, show them what happens during soldiers’ first days in the military and teaches the basics of marksmanship with an M-16 simulator.

Lunch is included at a cost of $5.55. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and is open to people 13 and older. Space is limited and reservations are required by July 29.
