One lane of 1-26 Eastbound in Newberry to be closed for Repairs

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Expect heavy congestion along parts of 1-26 beginning Sunday at 8pm.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation says it plans to close one lane along a portion of Interstate 26 Eastbound in Newberry County for emergency bridge repairs 8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, to Friday, Aug. 5.

According to the SCDOT, the right lane of I-26 will be closed for approximately 2.5 miles beginning at mile marker 81 for repairs to the bridge over the Palmetto Trail west of Crims Creek. The right lane will remain closed while bridge deck is being repaired. Westbound traffic is not impacted.

The speed limit will drop from 70 mph to 45 mph in the work zone. Motorists are advised use caution when traveling in the work zone for their safety and the safety of highway workers.

The SCDOT says crews will be working around the clock to repair approximately a 450-square foot section of bridge deck. Completion of repairs is expected on Friday, Aug. 5, barring delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
