RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C (WOLO) – A 20-year-old man is charged with two counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, two counts of malicious injury to real property, two counts of larceny, and possession of a burglary tool after a botched burglary attempt, police say.

Thomas Barber was taken into custody Monday shortly after allegedly trying to break into a home on Carriage Trace Court.

Police say a concerned citizen was able to provide a description of the suspect.

Authorities say investigators were also able to determine that Barber was responsible for burglarizing the victim’s residence on August 4, stealing a laptop valued at $500.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Barber is also linked to another burglary in the same area.

On July 20 at another home on Carriage Trace Court, police allege Barber broke into the victim’s residence through the garage window and stole two handguns, an assault rifle, ammunition, and several PlayStation games valued at $3,000.

Barber is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
