COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The state Court of Appeals says Columbia must release complaints against former police chief Randy Scott.
The court issued the order Wednesday.
Scott resigned from the police department in 2013, citing post-traumatic stress disorder. His resignation came after the department was sued by a former officer who said she was made a scapegoat in a botched investigation
Scott returned to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, where he had worked before becoming Columbia’s police chief in 2010. Sheriff’s Lt. Curtis Wilson told local media Scott left the sheriff’s department July 19 because of medical problems.
The Appeals Court order said there are certain emails and other complaints that should be released.
City Attorney W. Allen Nickles says he doesn’t know yet if the city will appeal to the state Supreme Court.
